There's so much confusion over what is a true black alpaca and a white alpaca. This page aims to showcase and provide understanding and answer common questions on these rare coloured alpacas. Many people have not seen these alpaca colours and are going crazy with curiosity to see or own one of their own. Most of the photos are from a user who is part of Alpaca World Amino https://aminoapps.com/c/alpacaworldamino/info/ an Alpaca World community. To enlarge the photos click on them.

In the comments on this wiki I see a lot of people saying they caught a black alpaca or a white alpaca. Some are also not sure what makes a black a black and a white a white.

  • If your alpaca has light cotton skin or fur it is not a white alpaca even through it may seen very very white and bright looking.
  • If you alpaca has shadow skin of fur it is not a black alpaca despite how dark and black looking it looks.

Why? Because the colour labels must actually say it has either black fur or skin or white fur and skin. The colour labels on the alpacas are what determines the colour of the alpaca. There is fur colour and skin colour. To see fur and skin colour while at the farm click on an alpaca, then click on a button near the bottom of the screen called Info. This will open up a box like the one in this photo ----------------->

In this photo the fur colour is Black and the skin is Shadow.

This alpaca is a very special photo of a black skinned alpaca which is why it has red eyes. White skinned alpacas may have red eyes also. If you have a shadow alpaca whether it is a mix or pure if bred to another mix or pure shadow alpaca it will never produce a black alpaca sorry to say (I tried it but if you need certification you can experiment yourself). Shadows yes but not blacks. Same thing goes for white alpacas. You can not create a colour out of nowhere. The only way you can breed another white or black alpaca is to have an original alpaca which has black fur or skin or a white alpaca which has white fur or skin. Even so unless your parent colour combinations are such that you are guaranteed in the possibilities to get your black alpaca or white alpaca you may not get a black alpaca or white alpaca. Buying GMO technology(price tag is 1 million) is a certified way to choose your alpaca colour but an expensive way.

To Summarise:

  • If your alpaca has light cotton skin or fur it is not a white alpaca even through it may seen very very white and bright looking.
  • If you alpaca has shadow skin of fur it is not a black alpaca despite how dark and black looking it looks.
  • Colour labels must actually say it has either black fur or skin or white fur and skin.
  • To see fur and skin colour while at the farm click on an alpaca, then click on a button near the bottom of the screen called Info.
  • Shadow alpacas and light cotton alpacas cannot create black alpacas or white alpacas. Parents must have black to breed black alpacas and white to breed white alpacas.
  • Even if you only have one black alpaca or white alpaca with GMO technology you can breed them with a non black alpaca or non white alpaca and choose the black alpaca or white alpaca combinations.

This is a screenshot I took. It was the first black alpaca I'd ever seen and missed while training my alpaca team. NEVER be without an open slot or 2. Screenshot also provides example of how black alpacas can be encountered outside Black Hill.

Concluding -

I hope this information which I have compiled together from my own experiences, this wiki and Alpaca World Amino has answered some of you curious folks out there and enlightened you further on this interesting topic. Many questions on this wiki are easily answered through exploring the game so I recommend this as it is also how I learned.

In no way is this page meant to be conclusive on black alpacas and white alpacas. I strongly encourage anybody who has a black alpaca/white alpaca to post a photo(this could be a screenshot, photo of a phone etc) or knows something about them to share away! Photos are GREAT and any knowledge or ideas or discussion on black alpacas and white alpacas is welcomed. Even if you are not sure if your alpaca is black or white feel free to share a photo.
